This term our theme is 'Mini-Beasts'

Welcome to the last half term of the year! This is always a busy and exciting time of the year at Pre-School. The weather is good and we can play outside most days. We dig in the garden planting plants and looking for small creatures. The children always love to do this and our theme this half term is Mini-Beasts to make the most of the children’s natural curiosity.

We will be participating in the village theme this year and our entry is entitled ‘Creepy, Crawly Calypso Band’ so look out for lots of little creatures and be prepared to learn lots of songs about mini- beasts.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you to please send the children with a named hat, sensible shoes and clothing (it is difficult to climb and dig in long dresses – shorts and T-shirts are best!) and with sun block already applied. Thank you.

In this term also the Abacus children begin to get ready for their exciting move up to ‘Big School’, we have visits from the teachers, P.E. sessions and a Presentation afternoon to say goodbye! Don’t forget also the letter of the week, your child’s chance to bring in something interesting to talk about beginning with that letter. Anything connected to the theme is also welcome!

So here are some dates for your diary. Attached are some songs and rhymes that we will be learning connected to the theme and some activities that you and your child might like to try together. If you would like anything to be added to your child’s Diary you are very welcome to bring it in it is nice to see what they have been doing at home.

Weds. 11^th Committee meeting.

Thurs. 12^th Abacus P.E.

w/b 16^th June Butterflies and Moths. Abacus letter of the week ‘m’.

Mon. 16^th Abacus P.E.

Tues. 17^th Abacus photo. If your child does not attend this session they are still invited to be in the photo. Please bring your child at 12.55pm. Please wait outside until they have finished!

3.15pm – 4.00pm we have a ‘New Starters’ afternoon for any children who are thinking about enrolling with us.

Weds. 18^th ‘Zoolab’ will be visiting Abacus (bringing lots of creepy crawlies!) – all Abacus children are invited. Please bring children who do not attend on this day at 1.25pm and collect as normal at 3.00pm.

Thurs. 19^th Pre-School Open evening. 8.00pm.This is for the parents of all children due to start Abacus in Sept. (and school Sept. 2009). This will be an informal chat about what happens in the Abacus sessions.

Tues. 24^th Abacus P.E.

Weds. 25^thSummer Fair 3.15pm.

w/b 30^th June Dragonflies and Water boatmen. Abacus letter of the week ‘d’.

Tues. 1^st July Abacus Open evening 8.00pm (for those parents of children going to school in Sept.) Here you will get to meet your children’s teachers and have an informal chat with the staff and other parents.

Fri. 11^th Abacus P.E.

w/b 14^th July This last week is usually reserved for special treats such as Teddy Bears Picnic, Carnival time or a special water theme! We will let you know more details nearer the time.

Thurs. 17^th Abacus Presentation afternoon 1.45pm. All Abacus children their parents and carers invited. (Please bring non attending children at 1.35pm)
