| Pre-schoolPre-school sessions are for children aged two and a half upwards and sessions are run in the mornings. We currently run 5 sessions per week with up to 20 children in a session. The number of staff present depends on the number and ages of children attending the session, but we usually have at least 4 staff members at these sessions. The pre-school sessions run from 9.00 am to 11.45 am. A Typical Pre-school Session 9.00am. On arrival the children are greeted at the door by a member of staff. They select their name card, introducing word and letter recognition. They then choose the activity they wish to participate in. 9.20am. Children are called to register. Everyone is welcomed, children counted and news exchanged. The staff share a story with the children, which is related to the current theme.
9.35am. The activities of the day begin.
10.20am. Tidy up time. After the children have helped to tidy away the toys and activities they are then involved in a group activity. This could be singing or music and movement, a story or parachute play. Children are then encouraged to use the toilet and wash their hands before ‘snack time’. Children sit at the table and have an opportunity to chat, while they enjoy a drink, fruit and savoury snack. 11.15am. Depending on the weather the children then have the chance to run around outside. We have bikes, tricycles, climbing frame, see-saws and tents as well as balls and bean bags. We also have a small garden. If the weather is unfavourable we continue inside with more group activities, circle time or movement. 11.35am. Time to get ready for home. |
